Disney Insider Tips
A family trip to Walt Disney World Resort is a lot more fun when you plan for less stress instead of trying to do everything.
The best trips usually balance rides, rest, food, and flexibility. Here are the biggest game-changing tips for families:
Book restaurants at exactly 60 days out
Table-service spots like Be Our Guest and Cinderella's Royal Table fill up instantly.
Set an alarm for 6 a.m. Eastern — that's when the booking window opens. The most coveted slots vanish within minutes.
Arrive before the park opens
Gates open 30 minutes before official park hours for most guests. Rope drop is magic — you can walk on rides like
Seven Dwarfs Mine Train or Tiana's Bayou Adventure with almost no wait. Aim to be at the turnstiles 45 minutes early.
Stay on Disney Property if You Can
Being “inside the bubble” makes a huge difference with kids because of easier transportation, earlier park access,
midday hotel breaks, and less driving and parking stress
Great family-friendly resorts:
Disney's Art of Animation Resort — amazing themed rooms for kids
Disney's Caribbean Beach Resort — Skyliner access is incredibly convenient
Disney's Polynesian Village Resort — classic Disney feel + monorail

Use Lightning Lane Strategically
Don't blow your budget buying Lightning Lane for everything. Focus it on the one or two headliner attractions
with 60+ minute waits. Ride everything else at rope drop or during the evening parade when crowds thin out dramatically.
You do not need every ride. Focus on:
2–3 must-do rides per park
One character experience
One fun meal or treat stop
Best rides to prioritize:
TRON Lightcycle / Run
Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance
Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind
Avatar Flight of Passage
Rider Switch is a total game changer
Have a child too small for a ride? Ask a cast member for Rider Switch.
One parent waits with the little one while the other rides — then you swap
and the second parent gets to board with minimal wait. No one misses out.
Midday break = more magic
The 2–4 p.m. stretch is peak heat, peak crowds, and peak meltdown territory.
Families who return to the resort for a swim and a nap come back recharged for evening —
and evening is when Disney truly shines. Stay for the fireworks; they're worth it
Mobile Order Food
Use the official Disney app for quick-service meals. It saves so much standing in line with hangry kids.
Popular family favorites include Woody's Lunch Box, Satu'li Canteen & Columbia Harbour House
The best snacks aren't at the main spots
Skip the obvious carts and hunt down the grey stuff at Be Our Guest, dole whip floats in Adventureland,
and the smoked turkey legs near Liberty Square. Epcot's World Showcase is a snack-lover's dream —
budget $20 per person just for food adventures.
Free water is everywhere
Any quick-service restaurant will give you a free cup of ice water — no purchase required.
Bring a refillable water bottle and save $5+ per person per fill.
Staying hydrated also keeps everyone in a much better mood on hot days.

Character Dining Can Replace Long Lines
Instead of waiting an hour for characters, book a meal (in advance!) where they come to you such
as Chef Mickey's, Topolino's Terrace – Flavors of the Riviera & Cinderella's Royal Table (book 60 days in advance)
Character meets have shorter waits after 5 p.m.
Morning character queues can run 45–90 minutes. Later in the day, many families have gone home or are at dinner —
waits drop significantly. Check the My Disney Experience app for live wait times and grab those hugs in the golden hour light.
Best Park Strategy for Families
Day 1: Magic Kingdom
Day 2: Pool/Rest/Disney Springs
Day 3: Disney's Hollywood Studios
Day 4: EPCOT
Day 5: Disney's Animal Kingdom
Disney Springs
Disney Springs is great on arrival or rest days for shopping, live music, the giant Disney store,
desserts (we always go to Ghiradelli Ice Cream & Chocolate Shop) and restaurants such as
the T-Rex Cafe, The Boathouse & Gideon’s Bakehouse (reserve on the Disney App)
Best Overall Advice
Kids rarely care if the schedule is perfect. They care about being together, small magical moments,
treats, rides that they loved and parents who aren’t exhausted!
Leaving space for spontaneity usually creates the best Disney memories.
