From the birthplace of American democracy to iconic cheesesteaks and world-class art, Philadelphia is the perfect day trip destination.
Here is my curated, action-packed itinerary for an unforgettable day in Philadelphia.
Morning
But 1st, Breakfast: J'aime French Bakery, we loved it and it got our day off to the right start!
The Liberty Bell & Independence Hall: Kick off your morning at the Liberty Bell Center (it’s free!) to see the famous cracked bell. Just next door is Independence Hall, the birthplace of the Declaration of Independence.
Elfreth's Alley: Take a short walk to the nation's oldest continuously inhabited residential street, featuring 32 homes built between 1728 and 1836.
Reading Terminal Market: Walk or take a quick Uber to one of America’s oldest and largest public markets. This is an absolute paradise for foodies. Grab a soft pretzel, some Amish baked goods, or an early lunch from one of the dozens of local vendors.
Afternoon
LOVE Park & City Hall: Walk over to John F. Kennedy Plaza, known as LOVE Park, to snap a photo with the iconic LOVE sculpture.
The "Rocky Steps" & Philly Museum of Art: Head to the Philadelphia Museum of Art. You have to run up the famous "Rocky Steps" and take a picture with the Rocky statue at the bottom. This was a dream come true for these Sly fans!!
South Street or Magic Gardens: Spend your late afternoon exploring the eclectic, vibrant murals on South Street, or visit the nearby Philadelphia’s Magic Gardens for a unique mosaic art experience.
Evening
The Ultimate Cheesesteak Showdown: You can’t leave without a cheesesteak! Head to South Philly to decide the ultimate debate: Pat’s King of Steaks or Geno’s Steaks. Tip: Order "whiz wit" (Cheez Whiz with onions).
Drinks & Views: End your night in Fishtown or at an artisanal cocktail bar in Center City. For a great view, take a walk along the Schuylkill River banks.
Tips for Your Philadelphia Day Trip
Best Time to Visit: Spring for blooming flowers at Morris Arboretum, or Fall for perfect walking weather.
Transportation: Many spots are walkable, but SEPTA is easy to use for traveling between Old City and the Museum district.
Get Around Efficiently: A quick 1.5 to 2-hour drive (or train ride) from NYC makes this an incredibly accessible city break.
Attire: If it’s fall-spring dress WARMLY and wear layers!! We underestimated how cold it could be!!
Whether you’re a history buff, a foodie, or an art lover, Philadelphia promises a day filled with unforgettable moments.
